Welcome mamas! Today is an exciting day because today we are rolling our our new series…..
Just like the old school MTV show we want to uncover all the nitty gritty things that make up being a mama. True Life: Motherhood. We all know children are blessings and that we all love our kids more than life. Sometimes though it isn’t that glamourous. Sometimes you just want to punch a Bubble Guppie in the face. In a world full of social media it’s easy to get caught up comparing your behind the scenes with other mamas highlight reels. In an effort to keep things real and to show you aren’t the only one who changes the clocks to make bedtime come an hour earlier, we decided to introduce you to some fellow mamas as they share a more humorous and realistic look into their roles of being a mama.
Each week we will let an amazing mama take over the blog and share with you a little about themselves and give you a peak into their behind the scenes. We gave all the mamas a series of questions and asked them to pick their favorite 5 and answer them. If nothing else, we promise it will provide you with some amazing laughs.
This week is our friend Lauren from Native Texan Livin’. Lauren is a in real life friend and we know you are going to LOVE her.
Hello all my new BFF’s! My name’s Lauren & I blog over at Native Texan Livin’. I started my blog a few years ago more as a “family memory book” but over the past year made it into more of a space for me to be me. I was so excited when Michelle & Channing asked me to participate in this True Life: Motherhood series. I think we ALL want to know that every mom’s day is not coming up roses but more like trudging through the muck to try to get to those roses.
I have 3 kiddos…all girls… ages 17, 8 & 5! (feel free to pray for me NOW!) 😉 The older 2 are about to have birthdays next month so technically, I guess that means I’ll have 2 kids & 1 adult daughter! Yikes! I had my oldest when I was 19 and I think we fared pretty well…she survived anyway! 😉 All 3 girls will be in school next year which is really exciting for me. The hubs & I have officially been married 11 years as of last week & we’re just here in the ‘burbs, living la vida loca. 😉 Hope you enjoy…
Grossest bodily fluid you have ever had on you from your child?
Well, we’ve all been pooped & peed on I’m sure, but throw up takes the cake for me. I mean, don’t you find yourself as a mom trying to keep the throw up from getting anywhere else?!?! I’ve been holding my kids before while they were sick & they start throwing up. No trash can in sight, I just sit there & make sure they throw up ON ME until we can get up & make it to the bathroom without getting it everywhere! Eww……then you have to clean off the chunks. Excuse me while I got puke from the memory! 😉
Kid show you hate the most? And why?
Back in the day with my oldest it was Teletubbies! I could literally feel us getting dumber as we watched it! 😉 Now, the one I can’t stand when it happens to be on is, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. I mean, it seems like they’re all brats except Kai-Lan! Someone’s always hitting someone or someone doesn’t get something they didn’t even say they wanted in the first place & they throw a big freaking fit. Then the whole gang is like, “Tolee why’d you hit Rintoo?” Tolee: “because I wanted that mask & Rintoo couldn’t read my mind to know I wanted that mask & I wanted it (in my mind) FIRST!” Rintoo: “sorry Tolee, you can have it since you’re such a big cry baby. I’ll go find a better mask with better friends & play with them.” That’s how it plays out in my mind anyway! Ugh, can you tell how much it annoys me?!?! (good thing we don’t have to watch it too much anymore!)
Biggest lie you have ever told your kids?
Maybe. “Maybe” to me pretty much means “no” but I don’t want to just come right out & say no. Then I try to distract them with something else in hopes they’ll forget about whatever they wanted to do. Then as they’re going to bed they’ll remember whatever it was I said maybe to & ask to do it tomorrow. “Sure, maybe, we’ll see what else we have going on.”
Most annoying toy your kid owns?
Right now, it’s their ipod touch & tablet. My middle will facetime with her cousin & one will say to the other, “did you get my text I just sent? OK, let me hang up & read it & I’ll call you back.” That goes on for about an hour & they’ve called each other back 2000 times so I get to hear that facetime ringing 2000 times! Then my youngest has found an amazing family on YouTube she loves to watch & it seems like all the kids do is scream. Someone played a trick on the kid….screams. Being pushed high up in the sky on a swing….screams. Ice cream truck comes….screams. Moms yelling at the dog….screams. So this gets to be my soundtrack to my day because where else would they want to facetime & watch someone else’s family on the internet but in the same room as me!
Favorite place to escape? How do you unwind at the end of the day?
Hmmm…well, I try to take lots of #3’s (as yall say!) but that doesn’t always work. I get followed to the bathroom LITERALLY every time I go, so mostly I just put the kids in bed at a decent hour & relax with a glass of wine…or glasses, if I’m being honest! But actually, my favorite “me time” is in the mornings when I’m all alone & can enjoy my coffee while stalking my “internet friends.”
Now be honest mamas, doesn’t it feel better knowing you aren’t the only one. I know it sure helps me!! Stay tuned in the coming week to meet some more incredible mamas. Make sure you go check out Lauren’s blog and follow her for more of her motherhood adventures.
