My daughter Abbie is one lucky little girl for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that she has lots of aunts and uncles. I have never been close to my aunts and uncles, so these relationships are some of my favorite to watch. One of the best relationships is the one Abbie has with my sister Rachel. Rachel was born when I was 9 years old, the sister I asked for and waited for since I knew what a sibling was. She was perfect in every way to me, and still is. The most perfect part about her? She has Asperger's syndrome, and she's someone I learn from every day. Nowadays, I'm not the only one learning from her - Abbie is learning invaluable ... READ MORE >>
You Know You Are Becoming Your Mother When…
Remember the time I shared how I was the perfect mom? Yeah...that time before I ever had kids?? Well once upon a time, when I was a teenager I vowed and promised myself that I would NEVER turn into my mother. Not that my mom was a horrible person, quite the opposite in fact, but when you are a teenager there is no greater thorn in your side than your mama. The constant rain on your rebellious parade. The fact that your mom went out of her way to protect you and want the very best for you was just straight up frustrating at 15 and 16. I mean seriously, the nerve. And so for years I vowed that when I had my own kids I. WOULD. NEVER. ... READ MORE >>
CINCO DE MAYO NACHO BAR
Hey guys! Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner and this year we are celebrating with a super easy but delicious nacho bar. What's a good Cinco de Mayo nacho bar without lots of color and lots of food?! We make nachos a lot at our house, and because everyone has different preferences we have a big spread. Everyone selects their toppings and then we heat them (on a cookie sheet) in the oven just until the cheese is melted. It's always a big hit with the kiddos and adults too! I add flowers and candles to virtually every get-together we have as it makes an otherwise simple meal a little more special without a lot of effort. I ... READ MORE >>
Marriage Milestones Shower Gift
This past weekend, my husband and I attended a wedding shower for one of our oldest and dearest friends. Technically Jeff was MY friend first, but once my husband came along I was happy to share. Jeff and his sweet fiancé Jessi will be getting married in just a few short weeks and seeing as how they are so special to our family, we wanted to get them something that was a little more meaningful than bath towels or tupperware. Since marriage is something that is near and dear to my heart I knew right away what I wanted to do. I have seen a similar marriage milestone gift basket that you can do with wine or champagne to celebrate the ... READ MORE >>
How to Keep Berries Fresher Longer
Friends I have a life hack for you that is the life hack of life hacks. That is, if you eat berries or fruit for that matter. Like most moms, I spend 95% of my life fighting with my children over what food they will or will not eat. One day they like this and the next day, they like that. One food group (yes, I have dubbed it an entire grouping) my kids get pumped about no matter what is berries. Of course it is berries. Why would we not choose the most expensive fruit in the produce section to be our favorite? Nonetheless, the kids love them! Every week when I do my grocery shopping I buy at least 4-5 lbs. of berries of some ... READ MORE >>
