Every year, the holidays come around and my kids receive more gifts than they could ever need. We come home with a packed car and immediately our playroom is transformed with new toys!
We are so grateful for all that the girls get, but every year, after a few weeks, the toys are forgotten and only touched or played with a few times throughout the year.
This year, I am going to try to change that by being more intentional with our Christmas lists. Have you heard of families using the “want, wear, need and read” checklist when buying toys? I love this idea and think it will allow for the girls to still get what they want for Christmas, but instead of being overwhelmed with an abundance of toys, it will help to incorporate items they will use more throughout the year. We are going to give them gifts that they really really reallllyyyyy want, gifts they can wear, gifts that they absolutely need, or toys that encourage learning!
My younger two girls are still learning to read, and I am a believer that learning can be fun. So, if we can implement toys where the kids are using problem solving, fine motor and critical thinking skills all while having fun, we have won!
When we recently came across the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar™, my kids were immediately hooked! The Code-a-pillar encourages little ones to be big thinkers. Kids can experiment by arranging the different segments into various patterns while working on their problem solving, planning & sequencing, and critical thinking skills! I am telling you, moms, this toy is awesome. The kids think they are just playing, but you and I know in all of that fun they are actually learning!
My girls have spent hours creating obstacle courses with their Think & Learn Code-a-pillar ™. They have lovingly named it Callie. They take turns trying to stump each other and see who can make the best combination of segments to make it through their obstacle!
We are loving our Think & Learn Code-a-pillar™ so much that we will definitely be adding more of the Fisher-Price Think & Learn toys to our gifting list this year!
