Each and every year around this time you will start to see everyone create their own summer bucket lists. Items they hope to do with their families over the summer vacation to keep them busy and entertained. I usually join the bandwagon and create something for my own crazies but if we are being completely honest I generally want to actually do about half the things on the list. Well half is being too generous, usually it’s maybe two things.
Go to the zoo in 110 degree heat all while fighting the crowds while my children loudly declare how hot, hungry and tired they are??! Nothing about that says fun or summer vacation to me.
If I could create my own summer bucket list…very little items on my list would actually include my children. Summer Break needs to be just that….and nobody deserves a break more than mama.
If it was up to me, my summer bucket list would look a lot more like this….
MAMA’S SUMMER BUCKET LIST
Go an entire day without my children fighting – While it may seem like wishful thinking this would make my whole summer if we could manage to make it through a day without the torment and tears.
Go an entire day without hearing “I’m Bored” – This one relys heavily on my ability to entertain my crew but the days where nobody tells me how bored they are (even when mama went out of her way to plan something fun) are the absolute best.
Have a girls weekend away – We have been saying it for awhile now, but my girlfriends and I want to take a weekend away to just sleep, shop and eat ourselves silly. I am actually planning one as I type so hopefully come July a kid free weekend will be in order for this hard working mama.
Spa day – Self explanatory but a mani, pedi, massage or facial would all do the trick. Although if we are being honest and wishing all of them together would be better.
Movie night that doesn’t involve a cartoon character – My goal is to see at least two movies this summer that don’t include singing animals or anytime of animation. The new Xmen movie is high on my list since it’s one of the few movies the husband and I can agree on.
Spend the day with my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand and not a child in sight – If you have ever been to the beach with your children then you know how exhausting it can be. Making sure everyone is sun screened and not drowning and fed and happy is no easy task. This mama wants to spend the day with a drink in my hand and my toes in the sand listening to the waves crash on the shore. A nap, a book…I don’t even care just as long as it involves peace and quiet.
Date nights – At least once a month. We can knock out the whole movie thing and two birds, one stone!
Off Duty Days – I want at least one day a week this summer where the laundry is neglected and the dishes sit in the sink and the kitchen is closed. I may still wrangle the chaos and kiddos but just having those things off my plate one day a week would be amazing.
Read a book that doesn’t start with once upon a time – It’s been awhile since I have read a book in it’s entirety. I honestly don’t even know what I would want to read, but my goal is to read two books this summer that don’t have pictures in them or end with “And they lived Happily Ever After”.
It’s yet to be seen how many of these I will get to accomplish, but I will report back. I promise.
What is on your summer bucket list? And what is a book that I should have on my summer must read list?

I love your list!!! I want to do everything on your list and I want to enjoy a nice lunch out by myself before baby comes. Is that too much to ask? Love you, friend!
