While some of the country is already heading back to the classroom, we have another 2 weeks of freedom here in Houston. Flippin’ hot freedom, but freedom none the less.
I am pretty sure it’s been said before, but in case it hasn’t, I am a Preschool Teacher. Yeah…..let that sink in. I mold young minds. {Insert evil laugh here}
Honestly though, I am pretty good at it. I love kids. I love watching them learn and create. Crafts with my kiddos are my absolute favorite.
Our first week back can always be a bit overwhelming for some of the kids. For some, it’s their first time in a school setting. One way we always ease into our new schedule is with some fun Back To School Crafts. And these don’t just have to be for classrooms, you could use these at home to prep kiddos for their upcoming school year and get them excited.
One of the first things we do in my classroom is read The Kissing Hand. It is perfect for those kiddos who may be a little more nervous about leaving Mom and Dad, maybe for the first time. The book paired with a craft activity is the perfect way to serve as a reminder that mommies and daddies are always with them in their hearts. A simple craft for the first few days of school like this cute handprint art idea from Team Johnson is perfect.
My kiddos don’t take a bus to school but this is an AWESOME keepsake and craft for school age kiddos. This craft stick school bus from Reading Confetti is seriously precious. Plus it would be a fun way to keep all those first day photos from year to year.
Another fun craft are these mini paper backpacks that are perfect for back to school. Danielle’s Place has all the instructions to make this cheap and easy craft. This will be perfect for preschoolers to work on their gluing skills….just a little dot will do folks. Not to mention Danielle has a ton of suggestions of how get some creative use out of the craft.
Another easy handprint craft is this First Day of School Handprint Fish from Fun Handprint Art Blog. You could easily change the grade and watch the fish decorating get more and more creative over the years.
You know you are a preschool teacher when most of your crafts involve handprints. This one is a MUST because this Pete the Cat one is just too precious to pass up. Paired with Pete’s Rocking In My School Shoes story, it’s the perfect fun back to school craft.

This craft isn’t for my kiddos at school, but I can totally utilize the end result in my classroom. I plan to make these Duct Tape Pencil Pouches with the girls. Hip 2 Save, you are GENIUS! This will be perfect for Madisyn.
What are some ways you gear up for back to school? Honestly I am not sure our family is gonna know what hit us. We have lots of changes this year with my oldest starting middle school and then our middle starting Kinder. I will have 3 different school drop offs and pick ups. It’s gonna be a busy one, but also a good one. I can just tell.
