I feel like every Mom I talk to is in the same boat as me. We are all looking for and needing more sleep! I have been so desperate for better sleep that this year, I have made it one of my resolutions to get more sleep. We moms worry so much about our children and the amount of sleep that they are getting but we very rarely look at ourselves to figure out what we need.
If you are anything like me once your kids are in bed you start going through the list of things you have to take care of before your head hits the pillow. You start checking things off your list then next thing you know, it is already the middle of the night and you only have a few hours until your little ones wake up. But, you know the age old saying…you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of everyone else. This philosophy could not be more true in every aspect of our Mom lives, especially when it comes to our sleep!
In order to help myself get into better habits I have changed up my evening and bed time routine quite a bit. These changes have worked wonders for me and I had to share them with you. Here are my 5 Tips for Moms Who Need More Sleep! I hope they help you as much as they have helped me!

5 Tips for Moms Who Need More Sleep
Put Down the Electronics
This may be an obvious one but it’s the one I have struggled with the most. I am terrible about checking everything on my phone before heading to bed. I spend way too much time on my phone and not enough time sleeping. But, research has shown the the lights from our phones actually keep us up instead of helping us unwind to fall asleep. Put that phone away!
Allow Yourself Time to Unwind
Once the kids are down I need time to decompress and to let my mind unwind from the day. Find something that helps you relax so once you are in bed your mind is at ease. For me, a nice bath does the trick. I even sometimes add some lavender oil to help me relax even more.
Go to Bed at a Decent Hour
After your mind is cleared, head to bed! Go to bed Mamas, you deserve it!
Make Sure You Have a Great Mattress
We have needed a new mattress for years. When we got married we used the mattress my husband already had and have needed a new one ever since. We recently got a LulaaBED mattress from Sam’s Club and have had the most amazing nights sleep ever since.
What we love about this mattress is how easy it was from delivery to set up. You guys, this mattress is amazing. It came boxed and rolled up. We unpacked and unrolled the LulaaBed and it literally started expanding right away.
Not only is the mattress this easy to install but it also has a washable zip-off mattress cover. It is genius! The mattress foam is CertiPur Certified, meaning it is free of flame retardants, heavy metals, formaldehyde, &phthalates.
Having a new mattress has been life changing for us. At the end of a busy day it is so nice to know that we will be able to lay our heads down at night and be comfortable for a great nights sleep!
Try Working Out in the Evening
Physical activity promotes better sleep, we know this. But, did you know that for many of us when we work out at night it also helps us de-stress? Go for a walk or even try just stretching. Allowing yourself time to get your endorphin’s flowing could definitely be the key to a better nights sleep.
